In the past Amalfi was the main town of Norman duchy, the main link between East and West. Nowadays Amalfi is prestigious resort and one of the central towns of Amalfi Coast. There is an interesting legend about origin of the name of the town. According to the legend, Amalfi was the mermaid and the Hercules’s beloved wife. When she died, Hercules buried her on the land, which was consecrated by the Gods, and this place was named in her honor- Amalfi.
Nowadays couples in love choose this consecrating by the Gods land as place for performing their wedding in the sea.
The civil wedding ceremony in Amalfi could be performed in two locations: in the Town hall or in the Old Arsenal. The last one is very suggestive place. The imposing structure of stone and mortar, which has defied centuries; the light charm of the cross vault giving the right touch of elegance; the modular rhythm of solids and voids making sure that the fateful "YES" bouncing on the stones of the pillars and branches into a prolonged echo, which does not escape even more distracted ears – all these facts make the Old Arsenal of the Republic of Amalfi a unique place for your wedding.
After the ceremony, with the only step, you will leave behind the centuries of history, and to dive into the sea and the colours of Amalfi, admired in two, of course, will multiply its beauty.
Ravello is another jewel on the Tyrrhenian Sea on the Amalfi Coast. The town is situated on a mountain slope. From the Middle Ages this town was chosen as place for residence for many aristocratic families, who have decided to leave the populous coast and live in Oasis, enjoying its beauty and tranquility. Centuries passed, the governors changed, rich families were replaced by others, but the beauty and tranquility reigning in Ravello, remained. Thanks to its stunning views, town gained fame "the most
beautiful terraces of the world ." Its beauty inspired the composer Wagner for the creation of " Parsifal " , the writer David Lawrence for his book " Lady Chatterley's Lover ", the artist William Turner for the creation of a series of paintings with the scenery of the Amalfi Coast.
Fabulous beauty of Ravello continues to delight and inspire its guests in our days too. The International Music Festival (Festival Internazionale della Musica) has been taking place on the terrace of Ravello during last 40 years in summer time. Thanks to the Festival the town is called "city of music" ("citta della musica").
The famous actress Greta Garbo found comfort and peace in Ravello. The town is visiting by many Hollywood stars. But it does not mean that Ravello is available only for rich people, absolutely not. It is completely accessible for classic tourists, the purpose of the most of which is to visit the Cathedral of St. Panteleimon and the famous gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo.
Romantic people choose Ravello as wedding location in the sea.
