Once two castles housed by the sea in the province of La Spezia (it. La Spezia), in one of the bays of the romantic Gulf of Poets (it. Golfo dei Poeti).

The first castle was built in the 12^th century, meanwhile the second one was built in the beginning of the 15th century.

The rocks of volcanic origin are about 70 metres high and are called Cliffs of Cyclops. The coast was named after them the Riviera (coast) of the Cyclops.
