Today, the Castle a rarity among Italian wine estates, not just because of its size (some 7,100 acres, of which around 2,400 are planted with vines), its composition of single vineyards, or its state-of-the-art winery, but because it was started from scratch less than 20 years ago.

The first accounts relating to the Castle date back to the eleventh century, at that time it was a property of the Benedictine monks. Subsequently it became the property of a local feudal family, then passed to the Ricasoli family.

Now the Castle is a property of the joint-stock company Viticola Toscana established in 1968. An important agricultural transformation takes place between 1968 and 1972, when the Viticola Toscana implants 180 hectares of vineyards, then a large wine making cellar was built and production of the Chianti Classico DOCG wine was begun.

The farmsteads have been renovated and those located near the Castle have been turned into farmhouses (agriturismo).

Aristocratic Florentine villa, placed on the slope of Fiesole’s elegant hill, offers splendid views of Florence and of Fiesole’s landscape. The Villa was named “The Sfacciata”, in the XX century for its dominant position and its beautiful surrounding gardens and park.

It dates back to Medieval times when, we suppose, it appeared as a 14th century cottage with its pretty farm. The Villa was transformed into a palace in the 15^th century.

Restoration on a grand scale, carried out by the Salviati family, changed the aspect of the villa. The Salviati family remained the proprietor of the villa throughout,the XVI and XVII centuries. The new intervention restored the building to its simple and, at the same time, sumptuous aspect. The walls of white plaster was restored providing contrast to the “pietra serena”, a Tuscany durable grey stone, which stands out from the thresholds and the chimneys.
